Gracing our shores. The gorgeous Ester Rada from Israel with Eithiopian descendants forms part of the Standardb Bank JoJ scheduled from Sep 15 to 17 at Sandton Convention Center.

It is scheduled from September 15 to 17 at the Sandton Convention Center, in Johannesburg – Africas’ Greatest City- a ‘bold and pulsating metropolis’.

Over three days, come and witness 35 exclusive shows on four melodic stages!

The line-up boasts local and international stars from Lira, bra Sipho “Hotstix”Mabuse, Houston Person, Jonathan Butler featuring Gerald Albright, Ranee Lee, sis S’Bongile Khumalo, Feya Faku featuring Swiss Unit, Sounds of Love, Ringo and Judith Sephuma, among others.

Also gracing our shores is Ester Rada, who reflects her Ethiopian and Israel upbringing. She says she looks up to the likes of musical giants Nina Simone and queen of Soul Aretha Franklin for inspiration.

She will perform songs from her album ‘Life Happens’. Catch her live at the Mbira Stage on Friday, alongside the likes of our own Lira and Sounds of Love from US.

I conducted a brief interview with a Soweto group Kitchen Mess- that comprises of four young male lads, who were part of the delegation that crossed our borders to the exotic Mozambique this past weekend; as part of Gauteng Tourism marketing strategy to tap on the Mozambican market.

According to the group, they were part of the Joy of Jazz developmental programme in 2012, and since then, have not looked back as they’ve been booked to perform and be the opening act for the likes of Kenny Latimore, etc.

The Protea Glen four-some believe the world is their oyster and would take any opportunity presenting itself and hopefully, perform for a sold out crowds during the JoJ in no distant future.

How dare we forget that one of the oldest profession’s in the world: ladies of the night will be smiling all the way to the banks for the next three or more days in the City that never sleeps!

Our own. The colourful Jonathan Butler is part of the JoJ massive line-up, that boast jazz exponents of high calibre.

Tickets for the Joy of Jazz range from R500 on Thursday (15) and day pass for Friday or Saturday R750.

For weekend pass for Friday and Saturday R1250.
