R24m is being looted and unaccounted for at Jozi FM.
The sprawling community radio station Jozi FM has miraculously lost a whopping R24m that was disbursed in 2013 by the National Lottery Commission.
This was revealed by the management during an impromptu media brief at the station’s offices in Dube, Soweto recently.
According to Mpho Mhlongo, the CE at the station, who was at pains expatiating what might have happened on looting of the funds, says they’re pointed fingers at the chairperson of the
Board- Rapitse Montsho, who was not present at the briefing, to account.
Mhlongo also explained following the disbursement of funds from NLC, two accounts were opened by the board led by Montsho, on two occasions.
“We knew about the funds from NLC but were caught unaware on the opening of two accounts, which was only established after we began asking questions about the money at the board,” he remarked.
He confirmed the funds were transferred on two tranches- meaning the first R12m, was deposited and the second followed and ‘our board should explain where the money is?’
Posed to him if the same NLC was contacted on these serious allegations, Mhlongo, without a blink of an-eye said yes.
“We did immediately, upon investigation internally. And until now in 2025 we have not heard a word from them, surprisingly,” adding “it must not sound as if we’re only making the noise now, we did for the past years’ but have reached the point the community must know”.
Pursuant to that cases of fraud and corruption were opened at a local police station, including the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), with him emphasising “we have a case number to prove”.
We have in our possession the Case No. that was opened at the Orlando Police Station in May 2025.
According to Mhlongo, who was supported by his management, says they look forward dissolving the whole “corrupt board” soon.
In its press statement Jozi FM says “in accordance with the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities, Act 12 of 2004, Jozi FM is obliged to act with transparency and accountability by reporting any suspected criminal conduct to the relevant law enforcement authorities.”
It continues:” The Management of Jozi FM reaffirms its commitment to good governance, ethical leadership, and the responsible use of public and donor funds. We will continue to cooperate fully with investigators to ensure that the truth is established and that appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law.”
Operation Dudula, an anti-migrant movement, was represented by its leader Zandile Dabula at the briefing.
Both NLC and SIU were contacted for a comment but did not respond at the time of publishing.
This is a developing story.
