Jozi to Nelspruit in Mazda CX-30 an exhilarating drive

THE Mazda CX-30 was evaluated and must say it has the potential to challenge other marques such as Volkswagen, Toyota and Suzuki.

I took it for a long haul- Nelspruit for another media launch, and was impressed with its exhilarating driving experience, sophisticated style, and advanced technology.

It comes with sculpted body lines, bold grille, and distinctive LED headlights, and the 18-inch, glossy black alloys.

Meandering through the hills and mountains of Naaspotie, one could feel under the hood, the 2024 Mazda CX-30 delivers impressive performance and handling (considering the hairpin turns and crosswinds) associated with that majestic tourism place.

The available Skyactiv-G engine provides a perfect balance of power and efficiency, delivering responsive acceleration and smooth power delivery across the rev range.

Since it was a long journey, I couldn’t feel the fatigue thanks to the latest ergonomic seating, ample legroom that create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

The intuitive layout of the cockpit puts essential controls and features within easy reach, while advanced infotainment and connectivity options keep you entertained and informed on the go, hence I had to switch to my USB as radio (being a newsman) proved problematic due to network.

However, the small boot -295l – could not pack the entire travel bag, knowing how big they are. Yes, sisters are you listening?

The CX-30 uses a 2.0l, four-cylinder petrol engine, which is naturally aspirated. This 121kW/213Nm unit is served in Mazda brands.

On safety, it is equipped with a host of advanced safety features and driver assistance technologies, from smart city brake support and lane-keep assist to adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.

The doors of the Mazda are on the light side, but any concerns about occupants’ safety are assuaged by the fitment of seven airbags and the credentials of a five-star EuroNCAP rating.

The Japanese CX-30 being a top tier expression, has standard amenities such a sunroof, Bose audio system and electrically-operated tailgate.

It claimed 8.5l/100km consumption average.

Pricing begins from R531,800 for the basic Active version.

R579,400 for the Dynamic grade, while the Carbon Edition, with its dark colour scheme, goes for R597,800.

The range-topping Individual is R641,900.

Pricing includes a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty and service plan.
