La Liga partnership has improved KwaMahlobo Soweto Games

sponsors LaLiga, says with the competition reaching an iconic 21-year milestone, the standard is set to be even higher than ever before with 40 teams from different parts of the country battling it out to see who will emerge victorious in the 3-week tournament.

The KwaMahlobo Games, kick off the 2017/18 edition from December 21 until January.

“I have been following the KwaMahlobo Games since the early nineties when we used to play with the likes of Teko Modise, Arthur Zwane, Gift Leremi and Scara Ngobese and proud to see how much of a contribution the games have made to South African football.

I am hoping to see fans coming out in their numbers to see their own stars displaying their talent,” says “Mbazo” who has also played for Jomo Cosmos, Bidvest Wits, Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax,

Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, amongst others.

The recent partnership with giant Spanish brand, LaLiga has also taken the games a notch higher. LaLiga recently partnered with the South African Football Association (SAFA) in an initiative called Future Champions (supported by the Gauteng Government) that was aimed at identifying and sending local talent to Spain for further development.

LaLiga Africa Director, Antonio Barradas has assured fans that the games will be a fun-filled family day with plenty of excitement and entertainment.

“We have been hard at work with all the tournament key stakeholders to ensure that we plan and deliver one of the most memorable and exciting tournaments. People have been working hard throughout the year and this is a time for them to relax and enjoy some entertainment without having to travel too far. We want to make sure that fans are entertained daily right up to the final day,” said Barradas.

The games kick off as early as 08h00 on Thursday, 21 December with defending champions, Braamfisher Eagles also in action on the day against crosstown rivals, Braamfisher Barcelona.

All games take place at the KwaMahlobo Grounds in Meadowlands Zone 10, Soweto and will run until Saturday, 6 January.
