Brains and beauty. 2017 Miss SA semi-finalists were revealed at the Maslow Hotel, Sandton.

Yesterday, 26 contestants were revealed to the media at the swanky Maslow Hotel, Sandton.

Gauteng leads the pack with 14, six Western Cape, three from KwaZulu Natal and one each from the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The Miss SA 2017 returns to Sun City after a year, following R800m refurbishments at the complex.

Must say it looks refreshing, after visiting the venue this week during the Nedbank Golf Challenge media day.

The 2017 beauty pageant semi-finalists are drawn from a medical doctor and a speech therapist; several law students; one about to qualify as an engineer; the owner of a construction company, news reader on Soweto TV and Jessica Tovey, daughter of former Bafana skipper Neil Tovey.

“We have a very talented and diverse group of young women who are passionate about competing and who have the intelligence, dedication and attitude to take the crown,” says Claudia Henkel, PR Manager: Sun International.

Suzette van der Merwe, Executive: Commercial Communications Cell C says: “The competition attracted high calibre entrants this year. We believe these young women are passionate about the opportunities associated with wearing the Miss South Africa crown and do their country proud.”

The winner walks away with R1-million in cash prizes and automatically becomes the spokesperson for the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day initiative.

The new Miss South Africa 2017 will be crowned at revamped Sun City on March 26.
