MTN8 kicks off with a newly designed trophy

ORLANDO Pirates will be looking to defend their 2023/24 season MTN8 Cup as they take on Sekhukhune United.

Both sides meet at Orlando Stadium on Saturday 12 August. Kick off 6pm.

Bucs are in good spirit having won their recent PSL league clash last week, and would like to take that form against United, who have lost their opening season games.

At ‘revamped’ Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, 7-time league winners Mamelodi Sundowns welcome the ‘flying birds’ of Soweto- Moroka Swallows.

Kick-off 3pm.

Cape Town City play host to struggling Kaizer Chiefs at the Athlone Stadium, from 3pm on Sunday.

AmaKhosi should ‘smell the coffee’ and wake-up as this season fans demand nothing-less either a silverware or two.

The appointment of Molefi Ntseki as new coach has rubbed many the wrong side and its upon him to show that gratitude to the Chiefs management by showing results.

You’re only good as your last game- he should know, he’s a seasoned campaigner!

That cabinet has gathered way too much dust now…

On the same Sunday, SuperSport United take on the ‘party-poopers’ Stellenbosch FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 6pm.

The MTN8 also unveiled its new trophy at the media launch on Thursday.

While the MTN8 tournament always comes with great activities to excite football fans and MTN customers, with this year’s campaign Is’khathi Sokuba Xtra, MTN wants to see how fans, participating teams and media can stay in the game even when the odds are against them.

“Football is that one sport that resonates with everyone, from the young to the old no matter the background and this speaks to the MTN Brand values.

The one key objective of our sponsorship is to bring football fans closer to their passions while enabling them opportunities to freely express themselves”, says Nomsa Chabeli, GM: Brand and Marketing, MTN SA.

Adding that: “We encourage fans and participating teams to show off how far and beyond they go for their teams, through their colourful content shared on social and digital platforms and the banters without worrying about not being connected. And in true essence bring “Is’khathi Sokuba Xtra. It’s Wafa Wafa time” to life”.
