Announcing the suspension in a meeting with the Departmental Senior Management Staff, the North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi said considering allegations of misconduct leveled against the HoD, he has firmly took a decision to place the HoD on precautionary suspension with immediate effect pending the investigation.
MEC Maloyi said the investigation team would be appointed and shall commence its duty next week, which will present its findings and recommendations.
“The investigation team will present its findings and recommendations which will determine the way forward whether to conduct a disciplinary hearing for misconduct or to clear the name of the HoD.”
“It is further important that pending the investigation, the department will religiously observe the jurisprudence of presumption innocence until proven otherwise,” said Maloyi.
The suspended HoD, has been prohibited from entering the premises of the Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison without prior written permission from the Executing Authority. Mokhatla was suspended with full remunerations and benefits.
The MEC has after consultation with Premier Thandi Modise, appointed Monnapula Motlogelwa as the Acting Head of the Department for the Human Settlements Branch in the Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison with immediate effect from August 03, 2012.
MEC Maloyi has called upon senior management members to accord the Acting HoD the necessary support and cooperation.
No further details on what led to the suspension or the purpose of the investigations were divulged by the department.
