NW rises from obscurity

Bojanala Events Promotions and Bojanala District Municipality in partnership with North Department of Sport, are about to change the landscape of North-West Province by using sport, edutainment and tourism as catalyst to attract visitors into the province.

This will be in form of hive of activities lined-up, conducting workshops on how to read contracts and financial management, beach party, Golf day, fashion show, jazz and visiting tourism icon destinations in the province.

Pencilled to take off from December 06 to 11, 2011 in Rustenburg in the form of the festival, the first Annual Platinum Jazz has been billed as the draw card likely to feature renowned artists such as the celebrated Zahara, balladeer Ringo, likeable Thandiswa Mazwai, jazz exponent Caiphus Semenya, and Malaika, just to mention the few, will bring the Platinum Province to an abrupt standstill.

Apart from the music element, the purpose of the concept is to bring back the old glory days which NW, particularly Bojanala was synonymous with. Notably, classified as an ‘academic province’ North West has produced leading academics, entrepreneurs, political stalwarts, international musicians, etc…

Unfortunately and rightfully so, NW tourism figures have plummeted to an all time low due to pitiable and unproductive marketing strategies. Being the fifth least visited Province in the country after KZN and Mpumalanga, this brainchild concept has come at the right time and could augur well in trying to re-work the business model which the province’s marketing agency has completely lost.

Key elements such as promoting long and short term investment opportunities, promote and identifying leisure establishments, platform to showcase local talent in the province and identifying local tourism, are some of the benchmarks which this project would leverage itself upon.

Workshops and educational classes on how to become a musician-producer-compiler-technician-marketer; arts and crafts exhibitions will yield good results for music enthusiasts alike.

Big Nuz, L’vovo, Tira, HHP, Oskido, Molemi, Bonang (MC), Thebe, and Dj Lul Café and others will complete the list of entertainers anticipated.

Oh, for those with humour or less of it can expect David Kau, Trevor Noah, Kagiso Lediga and eight local comedians to conjure up a thing or two.

More information on the festival, traveling packages, tickets, artists and workshops will be revealed at the media launch to take place both in Mahikeng and Rustenburg this weekend, respectively.
