TATA Motors Passenger Vehicles SA are excited to announce that the Osprey will join the brand’s local line up during the third quarter of 2026.
The Osprey, which is badged Nexon in other markets, is an SUV that will significantly bolster the brand’s already extensive model range.
The unique Osprey naming convention for the local market reflects a carefully curated and engineered offering for South Africa. The name itself is inspired by the dynamic Osprey, an apex explorer that thrives in the sky, on land and in water.
The Osprey badge is fitting for a model that fuses sophisticated, premium comfort with the rugged spirit required for off-grid exploration.
The Osprey is the perfect vehicle for weekend warriors, coastal explorers and those who seek out the raw adventure that South Africa offers.
Modern car buyers are tech savvy and demand vehicles that are safe, high-quality and tech forward and, the Osprey ticks all those boxes,” says Jeff Allison, General Manager of Marketing and Product for the distributor of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles South Africa.
Globally, the Nexon has been key to the brand’s success, with more than 1.05 million units finding homes across the globe since its initial launch in 2017. 2025 was the model’s strongest year, when annual volumes surpassed the 200 000 unit mark for the first time.
Modern, sleek styling
Styling is in line with its SUV family members and includes sequential LED daytime running lights, bi-function full LED headlamps and a dual tone panoramic sunroof with tilt function.
A raised bonnet, sleek lighting signature and dynamic stance result in an aggressive SUV style.
A tech-rich interior
The interior is tech rich and spacious with highlights that include a two spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo, a grand floor centre console and a premium dashboard with leatherette mid pad. A next-generation physical touch panel groups all the car’s controls elegantly into one panel, ensuring intuitive use of all popular functions along with a premium aesthetic.
The interior is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment system by Harman, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and Connected Vehicle technology via IRA 2.0, which allows owners to access their car through their mobile phone and monitor it from afar.
Occupant comfort is ensured thanks to Premium Benecke Kaliko Ventilated Leatherette seats.
Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the Osprey offers spacious seating for up to five passengers and an impressive 382 litres of boot space.
A HD 360-degree surround view system with front parking sensor, Blind View Monitor and HD Reverse Parking Camera allows drivers to navigate the daily grind safely and with confidence.
Indias five-star hero
As has become the norm with Tata’s product offering, safety is a top priority, and the Osprey elevates that characteristic to the next level.
A fortified cabin sees occupants safely cocooned inside an iron clad frame that protects them on the road and keeps them safe on their adventures. The Osprey is fitted with a wide variety of features designed to prevent accidents and keep occupants safe should an accident occur, including electronic stability programme, ADAS Level 2 and six airbags.
This resulted in the Osprey achieving a five-star global NCAP rating when it was tested in 2024. In addition, the Tata Osprey achieved the highest adult and child safety scores during the test, making it India’s safest car.
“Since returning to South Africa last year we have enjoyed tremendous success, surpassing the goals we have set for ourselves and retailing more than 600 cars during the month of May.
A variety of new model launches in the medium term are set to bolster and enhance that momentum and ensure that the brand goes from strength to strength in South Africa,” concludes Allison.
