The suspect is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court today.
It is alleged that the suspect who is employed by KR Attorneys as a Para-Legal, pretended to be a Johannesburg Water contractor hired by the City of Johannesburg to disconnect water supply to properties that are in arrears.
The suspect allegedly approached the Treasurer of Toraak Building Body Corporate. The building is in arrears of about R1,6-million. The suspect then demanded R10 000 in order for him not to disconnect water supply to the building.
The complainant then contacted the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) department and a sting operation was then set up working together with the Hawks.
“The City would like to commend the member of the public for refusing to be part of any corrupt activity and reporting the matter to GFIS. The City would also like to thank the members of the Hawks for assisting in apprehending the suspect.
Corruption has no place in the City and we will work tirelessly, and in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, to ensure that the residents of Johannesburg receive the quality services they deserve,” says Lucky Sindane- GFIS spokesperson.
