BOTH the Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu and Postbank are to blame for the failure to pay grants until this day.
This is the view of all concerned as alleged ‘glitch in a system’ is the reason thousands of beneficiaries have not received their monies from Postbank.
Dr Bongani Diako, spokesperson for Postbank has today, confirmed grant payments to recipients that were impacted by the “system incident” of September 5 and 6 have been made on Tuesday, from all outstanding South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
The poor, unemployed, disabled, old, and child-bearing people are the hardest hit and this has brought shame to families who have to borrow money to take care of their basic needs.
One frustrated Gogo even went to such an extend saying they can bear the brunt of loadshedding, but not getting a grant is highly unacceptable.
“The process of reversing funds into all affected beneficiaries’ accounts has been completed. Many Sassa Gold Card beneficiaries who had outstanding payments have been able to access their money through channels that include ATMs and retailers,” Diako said, promising they “do not envisage the same problem in October.”
However, human rights organisation Black Sash refuted Postbank’s claim that payments were done today.
Postbank advised that those social grant beneficiaries who need to make enquiries relating to their social grant payments to contact Postbank on the WhatsApp customer line, 073 806 1631, or email PBbalancingSaswitch@Postbank.co.za
Beneficiaries could also call 080 053 5455.
Meanwhile, DA has laid charges at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) against Zulu, her department, SASSA and Postbank.
