Close to 2000 dancers -gooi-in stone throwers- will descend at the resort to compete in the International DiscoDance championship.
According to organizers, the DiscoDance, IDO World Hiphop and the Electric Boogie Cups will be held in tandem with the famous and critically acclaimed ‘The Battle of the Giants’, which also takes place on the same dates.
‘The Battle of the Giants’ has become one of the regular but growing events identified as the ‘movers and shakers’ gathering by the youth.
Yours truly once tried to emulate those youngsters due to unwarranted jealousy, thus resulting in crippling my ankle, and not one but two!
Due to variations involved encompassing dance and hip, the international music channel Trace Urban (DSTV) has been roped in to cover the shows and will sponsor the Best Hip Hop category with a cool R15,000.
Cape Town Hip Hop and Electric Boogie dancer, Blake Williams will be defending his world title.
He was awarded the World Champion title and also runner up title in the Solo Hip Hop category in Austria last year and, was also South African Champion in 2010.
Will he still have that magic, be at shows?
“Eunice Marais dancers which has won 11 trophies and 33 medals in 2011, have showed tremendous talent, commitment and the will to succeed as 50 out of the group of 200 dance students are developmental dancers who do not have the money to pay for dance classes,” says Bev Wood, tournament organizer.
“We commend the Eunice Marais School of Dance for their developmental programme; they have given fledging dancers the chance to become world champions.”
