JOHANNESBURG Executive Mayor, Dada Morero, boarded a Rea Vaya bus alongside everyday commuters, travelling from Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein to the FNB Rea Vaya Station.
The journey was part of the city’s efforts to demonstrate its readiness to host the Springboks versus All Blacks rugby match.
Mayor Morero says, “Joburg’s BRT will be the quickest, safest and most affordable way for fans to travel to the FNB Stadium for rugby’s greatest rivalry match on Saturday 5 September 2026.
Local and global events such as this present a significant opportunity to profile the city as a capable host of major sporting events and to demonstrate the efficiency of our public transport system”.
Rugby fans can use Rea Vaya buses from Soweto, Florida North, Cresta, Joburg CBD, Parktown, Yeoville, Orange Groove, Alexandra and Sandton.
“Let’s wear our colours and take the ReliableEfficientAffordable Vaya to reduce traffic congestion and get to the stadium on time to give the Springboks a raucous reception and inspire them to a win”, says Morero.
On Thursday, Joburg launched its Electric Bus Trial Programme for a cleaner, more sustainable transport environment.
The E-Bus Trial will run for a period of 60 days from September to October 2026.
The trial buses will be deployed on Metrobus’s high-demand corridors, including routes in Soweto, Sandton, CBD and Roodepoort, operating alongside the existing fleet.
Rugby fans can purchase account-based ticketing cards at all Rea Vaya stations for R30.00.
Fans are encouraged to load sufficient funds for both their outbound and return journeys.
The cards can also be used for future Rea Vaya journeys and other events.
