FOLLOWING last years’ -let say no so popular viewership- the South African Music Awards returns to Sun City.
Celebrating its 32 iteration, the SAMAs will be held on August 15, it was confirmed by the organisers- Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
Punted as returning “home” to the North West Province, the North West Government’s – Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation department, MEC Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, says she’s excited with the decision taken in bringing back the awards home.
“It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West. This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation.”
She added that the return of the SAMAs marks not just an event, but a renewed celebration of the province’s cultural energy, hospitality and creative infrastructure.
With the SAMAs returning to familiar ground, MEC Tlhapi is describing SAMA 32 as a “homecoming edition”, a celebration of music, legacy and the continued evolution of South African sound on its biggest stage.
SAMA spokesperson Unati Gwija, confirmed preparations are already underway, with key stakeholder engagements taking place to ensure a seamless and unforgettable production.
Gwija confirmed: “We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs. There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host.”
In 2025 the awards were streamed on other platforms but did not generate the excitement usually associated with SAMAs, with others questioning its core existence and the role it plays in developing creative arts in the country, amongst others.
My hope is with Sun City confirmed as venue host, the awards will now grow and show the pedigree it deserves!
