NOSIVIWE Mapisa-Nqakula is a disgrace to the nation and his political organisation.
What she started years’ ago as a feisty cadre, has now crumbled down and will only be judged for her sins today.
She will now be officially charged for soliciting R2.3 million in bribes and gratifications from a fraud-accused businesswoman who reportedly received R210 million in defence contracts, while she was a defence minister.
Late on Wednesday, the disgraced National Speaker had decided to quit to allow all legal processes to unfold, a move welcomed by her political party ANC and other oppositions.
In a letter sent to Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli, she has also resigned as an MP.
The resignation on Wednesday followed weeks of speculation on her future amid threats of arrest by the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate (ID).
On Tuesday, the High Court in Pretoria struck her urgent application to interdict the National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi, Police Minister Bheki Cele and investigators from arresting her for the alleged graft off the roll.
This morning she handed herself at the Lyttelton police station in Centurion.
At around 7am, the SABC reported that two sport utility vehicles — an Audi Q7 and a black BMW X5 — arrived at the Lyttelton police station, transporting Mapisa-Nqakula.
She is anticipated to make an initial court appearance on Thursday, after being charged.
But according to DA, they will also pursue allegations that she increased the salary of Parliament Secretary Mxolisi George by a whopping 70%, without following proper procedures.
Litany of allegations that hogged headlines includes Mapisa- Nqakula allowing the controversial family the Guptas to use the Waterkloof Military Base for private landing; a jaunt trip to Zimbabwe using military flight that had the likes of former ANC SG, Ace Magashule and others, and purchasing expensive wigs, etc.
She is married to former Safety and Security minister Charles Nqakula.
Chequered life she lived, but it all comes crumbling down, mam!
