Sowetans get ready for serious skateboarding on June 16!

Phefeni High in Soweto, will host the Skateboarding Day on June 16, as part of commemorating this all important day in our political history.

As part of June Month (Youth Commemorations countywide) on June 16, the Skateboarding for Hope tour presented by Vans takes place at Phefeni Secondary School in Vilakazi Street.

The event will feature skateboarding clinics, board hand-outs, skateboarding contests and Youth Day discussions.

Registration starts from 09h00 while qualifying rounds start at 11h00 for the Top Grom (13 and under) categories and from 12h00 for the Open category (skaters aged 14 and over) and its FREE!

Entertainment will be provide by 5fm DJs Thando Thabete, Warras, Nicole Da Silva and MsCosmo, Tumi Voster and representatives from 5FM, SABC3 and motivational speaker Oscar von Memerty.

The Skateboarding for Hope tour forms part of the Northern Cape Provincial Government’s youth development programme and introduces South African youth to skateboarding, both as a leisure activity and a platform for social development.

Since its inception five years ago, Skateboarding for Hope has travelled throughout the country engaging with more than 100 000 people and has handing out more than 5 000 pairs of shoes, 10 000 T-shirts and almost 5000 skateboards.
