OVER 300 spaza shop owners from across Gauteng will gather at the Renew Conference Centre, Pine Slopes, Fourways.
The chosen date is Tuesday, 27 October for the Gauteng Spaza Supplier Connect Conference, a one-day event designed to help township retailers become compliant, grow their businesses and secure better prices on stock.
Since government’s crackdown on unsafe food and unregistered shops, spaza owners have been required to register their businesses, obtain municipal trading licences and meet health and safety standards. Many owners are still working out what is required of them and where to find help.
Spaza owners who attend will receive:
•Compliance made simple: business registration, municipal trading licences, health and food-safety requirements, and what inspectors look for.
•Funding information: support and finance options for spaza shops, including government support programmes.
•Training: stock management, pricing, record-keeping, digital payments and growing turnover.
•Direct access to suppliers: face-to-face meetings with FMCG brands, wholesalers and service providers, with the chance to negotiate better prices and terms.
•Networking: connections with fellow owners, spaza associations and support organisations.
“Spaza shops feed our townships. They are among the most important businesses in this country, yet their owners are often the last to hear about the support meant for them,” said Ntsako Lepere, Managing Director of CaMedia, the conference organiser.
“We are bringing the information, the support organisations and the suppliers into one room, so that owners leave with a clear path to being compliant, growing and well stocked.”
Spaza shop owners can register free of charge at www.spazaconference.site, registration includes lunch and training on the day.
Seats are limited.
