Standard Bank Private backs SA’s Southern Guards at the inaugural LIV Golf

WITH only weeks left before the LIV Golf tees-off in SA, sponsors are signing on dotted lines- thick and fast.

Africa’s leading financial institution Standard Bank Private, has been confirmed as the Southern Guards GC partners.

The much vaunted golf tourney will be held at Steyn City- Joburg, from March 19 to 22.

Southern Guards GC players–comprising of SAs great Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen, will wear the Standard Bank Private brand on their right sleeves at all forthcoming LIV Golf events.

The announcement signals strong local backing for the Southern Guards GC, ahead of LIV Golf’s upcoming debut event in South Africa – which is a landmark moment for both the team and South African golf fans.

Our partnership with Southern Guards GC is a natural extension of our long‑standing commitment to sport. For decades, we’ve backed initiatives that empower athletes, develop talent, and bring communities together because we believe in sport’s power to inspire and strengthen the nation.

Southern Guards GC reflects that same ambition and excellence on the global stage, and we’re proud to stand alongside the team,” says Bridgette Kruger, Standard Bank’s Head of Private Banking in South Africa.

The partnership pairs the financial powerhouse with a rising force in international sport, united in their drive to elevate South Africa’s global presence.

We’re really excited to be playing on home soil later this month,” says Southern Guards GC captain Louis Oosthuizen, who further commented “having a proudly local brand like Standard Bank standing alongside us makes it even more meaningful. It means a lot to have that support from back home, and this announcement is a big moment for the team ahead of such an important event for LIV Golf in South Africa.”

Standard Bank this week also signed a deal with SAFA to sponsor Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana and other teams, this as Bafana prepares for 2026 World Cup and Banyana jetting off to Morocco for WAFCON, respectively.

Tickets for the LIV Golf are now available.

Curated entertainment has also been confirmed with the likes of globetrotter Black Coffee spinning the discs on Friday 20.
