The 28 year-old beat other strong contenders to clinch the coveted prize which comes in handy with half-a million cash, a luxury Hilux Double Cab and Yamaha Grizzly 300 quad bike.
Speaking exclusively to Sowetolife Mag Online last night, after the presentation ceremony held at the sought after The Venue, Sandton, he said he thanks God for all the power and will which helped steer him to the victory.
“Firstly, would like to send my sincere thanks to God who have me strength when odds were stacked against me, and secondly to my ‘machinery’ which is my family for believing in me and also encouraged me to enter the competition,” says the Tembisa born.
The fit-looking ‘Machine’ outnumbered other 15 tough contestants from all ove the country.
With the three remaining guys, the finale was held at Soweto Towers, Orlando were Bongs Ndima and Zwelandile Magaya battled it out but only to be outsmart by the ‘Machine’.
“To my fellow contestants, it was good meeting considering we come from different backgrounds. Yes, there were backstabbing as one would expect from any game, and I took as a man and as a challenge,” says the over-joyed Mapalakanye, dressed in label suit as opposed to usual and stench-wrenched overalls.
The BAR.ONE Manhunt, hosted by actor and kwaito star Howza, was filmed on location at various exotic local destinations locally and overseas at Buenos Aires and Patagonia (Argentina). It was broadcast on SABC1.
First time winner of a huge prize, first on plane and first being overseas, all this meant a lot to a person of my age, he says shyly.
Probed how he’s going to use the money, the overzealous ‘Machine’ said:”Fistly, I’m buying a house, get a family of mine since I don’t have a mother (apart from sisters) and some will be donated to the charity of my choice.”
Asked if he will enter next year’s season 4, he said “NO. Instead I will encourage others. My mission now is to open up a gym for youngsters as part of getting them off the streets.”
“However, as from now onwards, I need a well deserved break and who knows a family might be on the planning,” he says jokingly.
In his parting shot, he also send message of well-wishes to rap-musician Khulu Chana following the shooting. “May he get well soon.”
