The ‘Mighty’ Manhattans have made SA their choice of destination, having visited the country on numerous occasions.
In Johannesburg, they appear at Monte Casino for three-shows and wrap up at GrandWest in Cape Town for one night.
Since first emerging on the music scene in the 1960s, The Manhattans have sold over 40 million albums worldwide and boast a string of chart topping hits including classics such as Kiss and Say Goodbye and Forever by Your Side.
Alston joined the group in 1970 and together they enjoyed success with their 1973 song There`s No Me Without You.
The song quickly became a number one chart topper on both the US Billboard Pop and R&B charts. The group found further success in 1980 with the release of Shining Star, which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy Award.
The legendary songstress Belle is known for her singles Baby Come To Me andMake It Like It Was.
She is remembered most notably for her Grammy Award winning duet with Peabo Bryson A Whole New World, produced for Disney`s 1992 animated feature film Aladdin.
Belle was introduced to The Manhattans by New York radio DJ Vaughn Harper and began working as their opening act.
She recorded the duet Where Did We Go Wrong with the group.
“We look forward to welcoming these celebrated artists to our stage for one of only four concerts to be performed during their South African tour,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest.
In 2013, at the same GrandWest, The Manhattans also appeared with Regina. So, this goes to show there’s too much chemistry between the two. Yes, too much pun intended…
