The number of Vaal school children who died increases to 14. Mass burial confirmed for Sunday

THE school children who met their untimely death this week will be remembered at today’s memorial service.

Paul Tsotetsi Hall, in Sebokeng is the host venue. A mass funeral is expected to be held on Sunday, January 25 at the same venue.

The 12 died on Monday, when their scholar transport crashed into a truck in Vaal, according to the latest dashcam footage from the truck. But it has now being confirmed the tally has increased to 14.

At the time of publishing, names of the learners were not released.

Gauteng education department spokesperson, Steve Mabona in sending messages of condolences to the families attributed: “To the families, school communities, educators, and classmates, we extend our deepest condolences and continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

🕊️ Letlotlo Katlego Makwe – Grade 2, Vaal Triangle Primary School

🕊️ Ofentse Jayden Vinger – Grade 1, Oliver Lodge Primary School

🕊️ Lindokuhle Mabaso – Grade 5, Noordhoek Primary School

🕊️ Pheello Motaung – Grade 11, El-Shaddai Christian School

🕊️ Puleng Maphalla – Grade 11, El-Shaddai Christian School

🕊️ Naledi Motsapi – Grade 10, El-Shaddai Christian School

🕊️ Bohlale Lekekela – Grade 1, El-Shaddai Christian School

Others are still hospitalised.

The (22) driver Ayanda Dludla, has since appeared in court in the Vaal Magistrate Court, and was charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The case has been postponed to March 5.
