It has emerged that the newly installed group chief CEO Frans Matlala has been suspended for reasons best known by the SABC, today.
Matlala, who is former banking executive has been with the public broadcaster for mere four months, and his suspension remains a mystery.
Spin doctor Kaizer Kganyago admitted Matlala had been suspended pending an investigation.
Matlala’s suspension follows that of Hlaudi Motsoeneng (current SABC COO) whose case has hogged headlines for all wrong reasons. It is rumoured both have a ‘cordial’ relationship, following Matlala’s recommendation by Motsoeneng.
Former CEO Lulama Mokhobo did not complete her contract thus resigning abruptly in 2014 just 14 months into her term.
Thus far none of former CEs has completed their terms at the public broadcaster.
Matlala is the SABC’s 9th CEO – including those who were appointed in an acting capacity in the position for a period of time – to be in charge of the public broadcaster since 2009
SABC’s Group Executive: News and Current Affairs, Jimi Matthews, will be acting GCEO.
Neither Matlala or the minister of Communication Faith Mutambi were available for comment.
