Usurp- taking a space and change it-says Buyi from Butan Creatives

CELEBRATING the kaleidoscope of colour and Ubuntu- that’s how the energetic Buyi Msithini- marketing manager at Butan Creatives, described the event held last week on the explosion of fashion, art and culture.

Butan, who is creating an expressive platform for creatives powered by KWV 3 Year Old Brandy, held the do at Ursupa Gallery, Rosebank, where creative ‘juices’ were flowing courtesy of 10-designers drawn from Children of Midas School and others.

“This will formally launch the Butan Creatives project, which we believe will be groundbreaking within culture at large and beneficial to young African creatives,” says Buyi.

The visual art team comprises of energised and young directors and photographers such as Mishaal Gangaram, stylist Sheli Masondo, hair Beezybraidsza, makeup artist Skye – Children of Midas, videographer Alvyn Tona, art direction Children of Midas, BTS photographer and videographer EddyStep.

Asked if this would be once-off, the enigmatic Buyi, unequivocally said no.” It will be a series that would unfold in-front of your eyes and bewildered. It’s about curators, fashion, culture and people,” she said during impromptu interview.

Ursupa Gallery- powered by Samsung- hence the naming ‘usurp’ is taking a space and change it, digitally of course, confirmed the bald-headed Buyi.

Creativity takes many forms. For some, it lies in the inspired excellence of cutting-edge photography and graphic design. For others it is found in a garment’s flow and swirl or the craftmanship of an award winning brandy. In South Africa, with its unique heritage and outlook, it can be a heady mixture of all four. Linking the fields.

Talk of SA’s award winning brandy- Karabo Ndlovu- KWV Brand Development Representative, says KWV 3 Year Old Brandy is building a following amongst the latest generation of proud young South Africans who recognise KWV Brandy’s rich South African heritage and artful blending to achieve a vibrant brandy with a full, smooth, and fruity taste.

As we celebrate heritage month in September Buyi further stated:” This forms part of our strategy to celebrate Ubuntu and this month fits perfect in our slogan ‘ignite your imagination’ with powerful brands in mzansi,” she quipped.

On pending partnership with one of Soweto’s football giants Kaizer Chiefs, Jessica Motaung- marketing director, showed me a glimpse of the creatives they’re working on with Butan; and what the market and the fans should expect in months to come.

“Our message is that creative excellence takes many forms and that KWV 3 Year Old Brandy, as the foundation of our craft with its character and excitement, is a natural and harmonious accompaniment to spaces, expressions and events where people with shared tastes meet”, says Alvin Saal, Brand Manager at KWV House of Brandy.
