Vaya ko kasie. The new film by Akin Omotoso- Vaya, will premiere during the TIFF in September. It stars Warren Mamabolo and Sihle Xaba (pictured).

Directed by Akin himself,  ‘Vaya’ is a gripping yet compassionate portrait of small-town characters immersed in the intimidating, alluring, and dangerous world of big city Johannesburg and Soweto.

The film stars Sihle Xaba, Warren Masemola, Mcedisi Shabangu, Zimkhitha Nyoka, Sibusiso Msimang and Azwile Chamane.

It was produced with the expertise of Akin Omotoso, Rethabile Molatela Mothobi, Harriet Perlman, Robbie Thorpe and Ronnie Apteker with Kabelo Thathe as a cinematographer.

“The film is a culmination of eight years of passion, dedication and the commitment to tell a unique South African story that resonates with the public.

We’re thrilled to present our work to TIFF audiences, but most importantly we cannot wait for our South African consumers to see it. We anticipate that the film would hit the local cinemas in 2017, and urge the public to once again support local productions,” says Akin.

‘Vaya’ is a kasie lingua loosely translated ‘to go’.

The Independent Producers Organisation (IPO) has therefore congratulated its chairperson Omotoso.

TIFF is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema to film lovers.

The festival began over 40 years ago and has since become the world’s most important publicly attended film festival and grown to embrace programming 365 days a year.

A time of publishing it was unclear when it would hit the SA market.

TIFF runs from September 8 until 16.
