Will now enjoy festive break with families as charges are withdrawn against Kodwa and co-accused

“VINDICATED, that’s how I feel”, says Zizi Kodwa.

Kodwa and his co-accused Jehan Mackay were acquitted of all charges today, by the Magistrate seating at Palm Ridge Court, Ekurhleni.

The former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson and NEC member faced allegations of accepting bribes from his co-accused, Jehan Mackay, in exchange for awarding government contracts to his tech company EOH, between April 2015 and February 2018, in the form of cash, luxury accommodation, and other benefits.

Kodwa had to adhere to the ANC’s Step- Aside Rule and also resign as an MP.

After reviewing their submission, the Director for Public Prosecutions decided to drop their charges.

The emotional Kodwa said would like to thank his family, the ANC and particularly former deputy President and veteran ntate Kgalema Motlanthe, who always had ‘words of encouragement for me’ during these difficult times.

Born Ncediso Goodenough Zizi Kodwa, remarked would now return to the structures of the organisations with a clear conscious.

Speaking to media during court’s postponement months ago, Zola Majavu, their legal counsel, stressed that the state’s case had “shortcomings” and was “palpably weak” having gone through the 1 351 page docket as well as the charge sheet.

“I’ve maintained my clients were innocent,” Majavu was quoted.

Both will now enjoy festive season with their families.
