This year’s World Aids Day’s theme is ‘Getting to Zero’.
The event was held at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth this morning.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi will also attend. Health Ministry spokesman Fidel Hadebe said this was a five-year plan.
This year’s World Aids Day theme is “Getting to Zero – Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero Aids-Related Deaths”.
Zuma last year launched a scaled-up counselling and testing campaign aimed at stemming the spread of the pandemic.
“The president launched the testing campaign last year. Only 30% of men tested. We call on them (men) to come up and test, not only once but on an ongoing basis,” Hadebe said.
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who is chairman of the South African National Aids Council (Sanac), Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet, Cabinet ministers and members of Sanac also attend the event.
The commemorations were held all over the country.
