World Cup 2026, here comes Bafana

BAFANA-Bafana are doing the unthinkable.

Having registered two wins, and scoring two goals in each match lately, has cemented their position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Last Friday, they beat neighbours Lesotho 2-0 ( I hope Pres Donald Trump now knows where is Lesotho), and on Tuesday they outwitted the stubborn Benin in Ivory Coast with the same margin.

Unthinkable, in that Bafana in the past failed dismally to qualify for both World Cup and AFCON qualifying games but lately, the tune has changed, thanks to coach Hugo Broos ‘fatherly figure’ presence.

This victory, their fourth in six matches, has cemented Bafana’s top position on Group C log with 10 points. And with an added plus five goals advantage.

Despite squandering chances, puffing and huffing in the first half, the boys found their feet in the second half- thanks to goals from England based Lyle Foster and substitute Jayden Adams.

HONOR, SAFA’s latest new partner hosted an exclusive viewing in Sandton on Tuesday evening.

Fred Zhou, CEO at HONOR South Africa, also confirmed the deal is for three-years.

Former Bafana stars such as goalminder Brian ‘Spider’ Baloyi, Fabian McCarthy, and SuperSport players such as Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo, were in attendance.

Meanwhile, I hope SAFA does pay its staff members who were marching on Tuesday before the game, after the association failed to pay their salaries, now that a new partner is on board.

According to media reports, SAFA will only settle salaries on March 31 2025.
