In August, after 6 months of treatment at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg, Kutlwano was discharged. Sarah Barnes, a psychologist placed at the Smile Foundation through the Vodacom Change the World initiative, remarks on her patient’s incredible attitude.
“He is a happy, smiley and brave child with a curiosity about the world. In a display of courage, he often says after returning from surgery, that he is far too brave to be admitted to ICU and will rather return to a normal ward.”
Earlier this month, Kutlwano got the opportunity to meet his hero Oscar Pistorius, who spent over an hour talking to Kutlwano’s about his dream of one day having legs just like Oscar so that he too can play soccer with his friends.
After the meeting Kutlwano was more positive than ever and upbeat about his future.
“Kutlwano has remained positive throughout his situation and wants his story to be an inspiration to others”.
His story is an upbeat one to motivate others and he wants the focus to be on his triumph rather than his adversity.
