Castle Africa 5s, will Milano FC defend their silverware?

For the first half of the year, teams around the country were competing with one another to score themselves a rare opportunity to travel with their squad to compete in the Africa 5s Continental Finals set from the 6th till 9th  June 2019 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The upcoming National Finals are the last hurdle for the teams before they lock horns with their African counterparts in Tanzania.

The ultimate winner of the continental showpiece will win a once in a lifetime experience to travel to Europe with brand ambassador, Samuel Eto’o.

Team South Africa’s Milano FC walked away with the bragging rights in 2018.

This year’s inclusion of a women’s league has brought in added excitement for the participants as well as the football fraternity.

“We have 12 women’s teams descending down to Centurion for the national finals which is a huge deal for the progression of football. Social football is still a growing football format in South Africa and Africa as a whole, so this League gives us an opportunity to grow the format and elevate women’s football at the same time. Football is advancing and it is great to have a brand as large as Castle Lager backing different aspects of the game.

The best part for participants is that they get to go on this journey with their close friends as 5-a-side and football in general is about playing the sport mostly for enjoyment. I am excited to be part of the journey as a mentor to the ladies and I look forward to what the future holds for women’s football in Africa,” says Castle Lager Brand Ambassador, Amanda Dlamini.

Castle Lager’s ability to infiltrate a saturated market with women’s football has been applauded and showcases the brand’s commitment to unifying people using their passion point.

Dlamini’s words were strongly echoed by Brand Director, Vaughan Croeser “As a brand that aims to build national unity, we constantly smashing labels placed on individuals and seek to inspire South Africans to realize how powerful we are when we stand together without judgement.

I am proud of all the women who made the decision to participate in this tournament, a first time experience for many of the teams. We are happy to be able to give consumers this wonderful opportunity to truly realize their dreams,” Croeser said.

The National Finals will kick-off at 10:00 am and will follow a round robin format.
