Fans call for boycott following the withdrawal of Sjava from DStv awards

His withdrawal came after organisers learnt of the case of rape that was opened against him by former girlfriend and musician Lady Zamar.

His song Umama was in the nod for Song of the Year and was nominated alongside Sho Madjozi, Prince Kaybee, King Monada and Dr Tumi- in the Favourite Music Artist/Group category, respectively.

He was also planned to perform at the awards but has been withdrawn.

“The decision to remove Sjava’s eligibility, including cancelling his performance at the awards is not one that has been made lightly, but we believe is in the best interest of all parties concerned.”

“This as a result of an ongoing investigation into the local performer by the authorities,” continued Moalusi.

Meanwhile, Sjava continues sticking to his guns that he did NOT sexually assault the singer.

“I did not rape her (Lady Zamar),” Sjava wrote.

“People are saying that I made empty threats to take her to court after her allegations last year. Ngithe mina I said last year I would follow legal processes to protect myself.”

His multitudes of fans are unsatisfied with the decision, some calling for boycott of the awards.

The KwaZulu-Natal crooner has also been removed from the Cape Town International Jazz line-up scheduled for Cape Town later this month.

The DStv awards will take place on Saturday March 14, at Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.

At the time of publishing it was not confirmed if there would be replacement for Sjava.
