Two Soweto schools win big at the Collect-a-Can National Schools Competition!

The rules are simple: collect as many cans as possible for recycling and win. Walaa…

Mofolo based Vukazenzele Primary received R25 000, while Lekang Primary (Central Western Jabavu) was awarded with R15 000 at the schools prize giving event at the end of last year.

This year’s competition kicked-off last Sunday, with a calling for Soweto schools and others nationally to enter the competition.

“These schools are truly an example to all other schools in Soweto to participate in this competition. This competition provides a great opportunity for schools to generate an extra income or to win big prizes while teaching the learners about a clean, green and healthy environment,” says Zimasa Velaphi, public relations and marketing manager at Collect-a-Can.

“We collect cans from businesses, the community, parents and at the places where people dumb their rubbish,” says Confidence Masigo, school principal of Lekang Primary School, whose school has entered the competition for the past 20 years’.

So, schools collect as many cans and win big for the sake of our environment!
