He spoke at the launch of Shell Helix Cup the pre-season fixture that will see Kaizer Chiefs do battle with 2017/18 PSL champs Mamelodi Sundowns on July 21 at the iconic FNB Stadium.
“The concept to create a new annual fixture is not only an exciting idea, it also offers soccer fans another opportunity to see the best talent in South Africa on the FNB Stadium pitch, battling for the bragging rights to lift this trophy.”
The Shell Helix Cup is a three-year deal.

The Shell brand is usually associated with F1 and having entered the football arena in SA, means a new dawn as it becomes innovative in their marketing strategy.

Public broadcaster has the broadcast rights and Vodacom View+ is the associate sponsor. In addition, Gauteng Provincial Government will assist with logistical arrangements as the host province.
The concept replaces the usual Carling Cup that used feature two Soweto clubs Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
