Celebrated as a platform to afford emerging jazz musicians from all walks of life that status, this year will see the lively and bassist Tebogo “AusTebza” Sedumedi, who will be launching her album ‘Motheo’ (a foundation) for the uninitiated.

Born in Krugersdorp, and raised between Mathopestad Boons and Mafikeng (North-West), the (37) looks set to ignite fire and passion with the over 35 000 patrons at the fest.

And she ain’t a novice having collaborated with top stars in the past.

The launch of an album follows her previous single ‘Going Home’ and subsequent full album ‘Make a Difference’, respectively.

“The CTIJF is the perfect stage on which to launch my new album, and I can’t wait to share my hard work with my fans at the festival,” says AusTebza, who was part of an all-girl band, Deeva that developed her love for bass, and they became so popular they were the backing band
for the late HHP.

The album consists of 12 tracks.

On the new album she uttered ”I’ve decided to take people back to where my love for live music started. The sounds have a lot of live, old and rich sounds that make up a huge frame of what South African organic sound is. Music lovers must be ready to experience pure nostalgia.”

Dubbed “The Groove Queen” by her peers and fans she will be lighting up the stage at Africa’s Grandest Gathering alongside some of the best local and international music icons, including Abdullah Ibrahim, Jonathan Butler – with special guest Candy Dulfer from the Netherlands, Kwetu Trio (featuring Aaron Rimbui, Herbie Tsoaeli and Ayanda Sikade), Lira, Mandisi Dyantyis, MF Robots from the United Kingdom and Nduduzo Makhathini.

In her own right she has collaborated and shared stages with the likes of Nothende, Gang of Instrumentals, Rae, Laurie Levine, Kelly Khumalo, Maxhoba, Wanda Baloyi and Swazi Dlamini, amongst others.

“I would like to do a collab with James Sakala and Mumba Yachi from Zambia to name a few,” she commented when asked who else she’d like to work with in the future.
