Soweto residents take out their frustrations by heading to Eskom head- office, as they brace chilly weather

The irate residents are demanding the utility to restore electricity as soon as possible, in some parts of Soweto that have been without power for months.

With winter season plummeting down this an urgent matter.

In the past weeks resident from Zondi, Dube and other near-by areas closed the streets with all they could lay their hands on, demanding an ear from Eskom.

Today, they braved the cold weather and met Eskom head-on.

Pensioner Nokuzile Nkwanyana (60), said she had been struggling with chest pains caused by smoke inhalation. She cooks for her seven grandchildren every night and the children’s homework was also affected.

“Candles are expensive, we can’t buy them every now and then. So the children cannot do their schoolwork in the dark and have to do it in the morning the next day,” says Nkwanyana.

Nhlanhla Lux, leader of the marchers said they preferred to march to Sunninghill, rather Soweto as they avoided burning tyres and destroying properties as it inconvenience own people and local businesses.

Heavy police presence and private security were on alert.

Eskom spokesperson for Gauteng Daphne Mokwena, did not provide comment at the time of publishing.

This is a very delicate matter the ruling party should be attending to especially with local elections coming soon.

Meanwhile, stage 4 loadshedding has been effected by the utility.

This is due to high demand or urgent maintenance being performed at certain stations.
