ON A beautiful, rainy Saturday afternoon, one had to abandon the comfort and warmth of his crib and headed up to the Constitutional Hill, in Braamfontein (Flame Studios) for the album launch.
The calling was from Afro Soul magical artist Noxolo Seti and her four-member band (Standark Bank Jazz recipients) who unveiled her latest offering ‘Molweni’ in her isiXhosa language meaning ‘hello everyone’.
After eleven years hiatus from the music scene having released the album ‘Isingqi’ in 2011, the (Gugulethi) Cape Town born, decided to release ‘Molweni’ a sign indicative ‘I’m back’ to ruffle some feathers and show some love, in the month of lovers- what a coincidence.
Engaging with limited audience that boasted jazz super star Gloria “The Boss” Bosman and members of the press, Noxolo says: “I am coming back to my roots and my people after an absence in the music industry.”
“I am also making a comeback to music and singing through connecting with new audiences and fellow musicians,” she continued. ‘I’m setting the record straight on love” she declared with chutzpah.
The album features a track ‘Ngicela’ that espouses love; not intimate or marriage but love that comes natural from any human-being that is ‘ubuntu’.
In my home language SeTswana- re kopa sego sa metsi– when one ask for a marriage, but in this instance Noxolo (uyacela) does ask for love in a different connotation, said the bubbly jazz- cum Afro Soul star, resplendent in gorgeous pink-dress made especially for her by one fashion designer.
The album has been prepared by well-known music producer extraordinaire Victor Masondo, who was quoted it has been “two years since working on this project”.
“Noxolo has a unique and rich sound and voice. This album encompasses her maturity and growth since her debut album,” he said.
“This is a story of her taking us through a captivating and enthralling journey of coming back, not only to music and performance but also to the stage where she truly belongs,” says bra ‘Vic’ as he known.
‘Molweni’ is available on all platforms.
In paying tribute to the late fellow musician Kiernan Forbes- AKA, Noxolo worked with her two sons who did magic on a sombre yet fulfilling day; by offering a rendition on some of mega star’s hit songs.
