BMW- SA stories such as popular ‘Gusheshe’ documented in a table coffee book

THE unique South African story has been narrated in a coffee table book, thanks to BMW.

It was unveiled on Thursday at a function graced by current and former BMW decision-makers (grey hair and experience), whose book includes their inputs.

BMW Lounge at Kyalami Int’l Race Track, that will be hosting the annual MFest this weekend, was the venue, as latest and old German models were being prepped along the race track, amidst the sound and smell of screeching tyres.

BMW – The Unique South African Story- is a 640-page hardback highlights the extraordinary 50-year journey of BMW in South Africa – the most comprehensive account of the organisation’s history.

This well-researched compilation details the first and the iconic BMW models manufactured at BMW Group Plant Rosslyn, such as the BMW 2000 SA and BMW 333i, along with the memorable launches of new BMW models, including EVs.

The complete history of BMW M Motorsport – its cars and drivers – is meticulously captured.

“We are proud to reflect on our company’s iconic history, particularly during a time that highlights South Africa’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. Moreover, we are pleased to see it preserved in this detailed publication.

This book launch is a beautiful mix of nostalgia, achievement, and corporate and community intrigue,” says BMW Group South Africa CEO, Peter van Binsbergen.

The collector’s coffee table book is available in two flagship editions: 2,000 standard edition copies and 333 limited edition, leather-bound and boxed copies.

Stefan Schuett, CEO of BMW Group Financial Services South Africa says, “We must thank the authors of this unique offering for their commitment to honouring BMW Group South Africa’s legacy, and the publishers for preparing and managing this interpretation.

We hope that all the BMW car owners and enthusiasts will enjoy it!”

“A dream that started over nine years ago has finally come to fruition. It is a true BMW Group South Africa encyclopaedia, giving the reader a complete background of the exclusive cars and great people that make BMW a distinctive brand in South Africa,” says author, Marek Letowt, who has been with the BMW brand from the young age.

The leather bound coffee table book is published by The Vantage Corporation and available from 3k to 8k, and already some orders have been placed internationally. It was ‘assembled’ in SA.
