FOLLOWING the “I AM FROM SOWETO” event in his honour, Lebo M is headed to Cape Town for the grand finale.
The Grammy Award-winning entertainment icon, will host his first of kind live concert at the prestigious Grand Arena, GrandWest on 18 April, in the company of another legend Hanz Zimmer.
This is part of Lebo M’s celebrating a superb 30 years’ in the industry, who also launched a billboard ‘I AM FROM SOWETO’ at the famous Vilakazi Street, last week during the send –off fete.
Expect the iconic chant Nants’ ingonyama that put African music on the global stage, from Lebohang Morake, and his stellar production team.
The Naledi born, Soweto, Lebo M and Zimmer, will also be joined by the likes of MiCasa, The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, The Soweto Spiritual Singers, The Ndlovu Youth Choir, Nkosinathi Shabalala and Refi Sings.
Celebrating nearly 40 years in music and film, Lebo M’s journey began with The Power of One and reached global acclaim with Disney’s The Lion King.
His pioneering work reshaped how African music is experienced worldwide.
An Oscar nominee and Grammy winner, Lebo M is globally recognised for his role in bringing African music to the world – as a composer, producer, and performer.
Lebo M shares his excitement: “My music is – and always will be – rooted in home soil, and I couldn’t be more excited about staging my first live concert season in Cape Town.
The music from The Lion King not only touched hearts and minds around the world, it continues to provide an inspirational platform to uplift local talent and inspire the next generation of creators,” he said, promising to take audiences on an emotional and nostalgic journey, celebrating his remarkable career and cultural impact.

We began our journey creating films about Africa at a time when few were willing to do,” he added.

• 16 April – Film & Music Workshops (9am – 1pm, Artscape Theatre Centre): An immersive educational experience designed to empower Africa’s next generation of creatives. Discussions will cover each step of the creative process – from composition, to meeting the public in the new, digital age.
Featured speakers include multi-award-winning artist Yanga Chief, internationally acclaimed producer and performer Tresor, and Temi Adenji, Managing Director at Warner Music Africa.
• 18 April – Lebo M Live Concert with Special Guest Hans Zimmer (limited seats, Grand Arena at Grand West): This spectacular production showcases Lebo M’s 40-year musical journey alongside Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.
This landmark concert represents a historic fusion of African and Western musical traditions before launching as a global tour.
