The North West Department of Tourism together with the North West Parks and Tourism Board, Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Tribal Authority and other key tourism stakeholders, have embarked on the 13th Heritage Park Walk.
The annual 106 km walk began from June 4 to 8, from Pilanesberg National Park to Madikwe Game Reserve, as it celebrates the international World Environment Day, whose theme is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with care.”
Its chief plan is to sustain awareness amongst people within and outside the North West province about intentions of creating the third largest conservation estate of about 270 000ha to ultimately create a migratory corridor for bigger mammals by combining the two reserves, says Charles Ndabeni, HOD at the department of Tourism.
Having participated in the walk years ago, the experience of passing through the bushes and getting intimate with the animals is one of my all time favourite experiences ever. And yes, your guards are armed to the teeth for any eventualities.
If only, I had checked my invitation…
According to Ndabeni, over 200 participants from all over the country are expected to partake.
At the time of publishing it was not confirmed if, the MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono, would be one of the participants.
