Body of a well-known DJ Warras identified

THE lifeless body of DJ Warras identified outside the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, today.

Allegedly he was shot by three unknown assailants, who ran away on foot, past the building he was working at, as a security detail, on hijacked buildings in Jozi, since he was in the security business.

“The department can confirm a shooting incident that happened this afternoon in the Johannesburg CBD. JMPD officers were first respondents to the incident when they were stopped by members of public who alerted them to the shooting.

“Currently, as a JMPD we don’t have any information regarding the incident or the victim. And the matter will be criminally investigated by the South African Police Service, who then shed better information regarding the incident,” says Xolani Fihla, the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), who confirmed the shooting.

The reason(s) for shooting has not yet being established, as Police are busy with investigations.

Recently, Warras on social media, shared a post that quickly went viral when he compared the controversial NW businessman Brown Mogotsi’s reported ordeal to a past incident in 2023 when community activist Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini’s Pimville home was petrol-bombed during a national shutdown protest.

“Hahahaha! Okay, cool story bro—this one is looking like the ‘bomb’ that went off by Nhlanhla Lux’s house lol! Same hitmen,” Warras quipped.

The comment split audiences. Some found it hilarious, poking fun at Mogotsi’s larger-than-life online persona, while others felt the DJ downplayed what could have been a serious life-threatening incident.

He owned a VIP security company.

Born Warrick Stock, DJ Warras had a charismatic personality and carved out a successful career spanning music, radio, and television. He had a stint at YFM, was a Live Amp presenter, 5FM DJ, Gagasi FM, amongst others.

Businessman and friend Rob Hersov identified his body and said “he was the most loving, compassionate, friendly, honest, open and decent human-being, and it is tragedy beyond belief. Warras we love you. We miss you. May you rest in Peace.”

The Durban born was (40) at the time of his death.
