KZN Hawks boss Senona shows no ‘eagle fight’ and clutches straws

WHILST the publicity seeking Brown Mogotsi is barking out orders to the Ad Hoc Committee on SAPS in Parliament, KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona, is busy clutching the straws.

The unenviable Mogotsi has demanded his security detail to be paid for him to appear at the Parly, as a result, he has been subpoenaed.

Gatvol members, had none of it and has demanded Mogotsi to appear or face stern consequences.

This moegoe who is clouded in controversial dealings with shady characters, thinks appearing before the committee means everyone must jump to his tune, he has no idea what’s coming…

Enters KwaZulu-Natal Hawks Head- Senona, who appeared at The Madlanga Commission.

By all accounts he does not convince me as a dedicated or clever ‘police officer’.

His responses came short, tacit and at times short-changed his testimony that confused the Commissioners themselves.

This irked Advocate Sesi Baloyi, who put it to him, that there was a conflict of interest when he encouraged Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala to seek legal advice over his multi-million rand cancelled SAPS contract.

He admitted before the Commission that he encouraged Matlala to seek legal guidance after his R360 million SAPS tender was cancelled due to irregularities.

However, Senona defended his stance, stating that he did not believe his advice to Matlala would constitute a conflict of interest.

“It is a common cause that somewhere in our line of duty, people will come and seek advice,” responded Senona, unconvincingly.

Commissioner Baloyi: “No, no, no, no, General. No, I have to stop you. I’ve asked you a direct question. Please answer my question. Don’t tell me what happens in life in general.

I’ve asked you a specific direct question. As you sit there, do you or do you not accept that this e-mail exchange that I have raised with you on its face, suggests that you had a conflict of interest between your friend’s business and your employer’s business?”

In response Senona quipped: “I don’t see it as a conflict of interest.”

He admitted jovially that he and Matlala are ‘brothers’.

Senona did not want to dwell much on the relationship pertaining to his wife and the Matlala’s.
