Their basement showcase, festooned in black and gold, will be running for 13 weeks, until 11 June 2016.
“This is not just any pop-up,” says Joshua Shifren, who conceived The Union Bar brand with Justin Kramer some years ago.
“Expect sophistication and style, specialty cocktails served in unconventional vessels, fresh artisanal food, and top-notch SA entertainment, all presented in black and gold. The stage is set for an extraordinary experience.”
Lucindi Branfield, the SA marketing manager for Black Bottle agrees: “This collaboration with The Union Bar promises to deliver an experience as deeply layered and intricate in character as our rich and smoky blended Scotch whisky. We believe this brand’s authentically bold and complex character mirrors the traits of the masterminds behind The Union Bar.”
The recent launch featured Mal Spence from Scotland, who is Black Bottle’s global ambassador and an internationally recognised mixologist. With more than 16 years’ experience tending, managing and building up the reputation of some of Scotland’s best bars, Spence has a wealth of knowledge.
He rubbed shoulders with Jozi’s who’s who and spoke about Black Bottle and its fascinating history that began with the original blend developed by the Graham brothers in Scotland’s Aberdeen, way back in 1879.
Guests at the launch were properly entertained by popular DJ Gennaro Bonnafedes, electronic violinist Caitlin de Ville, as well as a pair of burlesque dancers and a trained contortionist dancing in a golden cage.
The Union Bar with Black Bottle blended Scotch whisky has open to the public on Thursday to Saturday nights, 18:30 to late, from March 11 to June 11.
