Lost control. Edna Mamonyane JMPD spokesperosn has admitted they’ve lost war against growing criminal car window washers, who are a threat to the public.

follows hot on the heels criminals’ action involving car window washers in and around Johannesburg.

This week Jack Bloom –DA senior member made a call after being “shocked by a video circulating on social media of a motorist being assaulted by window washers at an intersection in Bruma in east Johannesburg.

Window washers usually target females who at times, are vulnerable to these criminals at busy intersections and hot sports such as Bruma, William Nicol, and Fourways.

“Bylaws prevent us from arresting these criminals because the law book does not allow them to be arrested. But if they are arrested, they get released the following day. That’s the problem we’re facing,” she said.

In some instances, we cooperate with Police Station Superintendents but immediately, when they’re deployed to another station, it becomes a nightmare, says Mamonyane.

According to her, meetings with the council are on-going to deal with this matter since its getting out of hand.

Asked if it’s legal, she said the law book does not indicate that.

“Whenever, they see our marked cars they run for cover and its impossible to arrest them.”

Bloom said that Metro Police “have been unable to solve” the problem for years‚ and this “despite the launch of Operation Ke Molao by the Johannesburg City Council last year that was meant to combat window washers and vagrants”.

“It is clear that there are criminal elements here that need to be curbed by effective ongoing police action.”

As of now Mamonyane has admitted defeat by these criminal window washers-who are running amok.

O kae molao (where is the law then) you may ask?
