The KZN born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, beat three of his country-men AKA, EMtee and Cassper Nyovest to clinch the prestigious award.

He also got the attention from the government in that Pres JG Zuma also, sent his message of congratulations.

“Black Coffee made history by becoming the first South African to win the prestigious Best International Act: Africa award.

Black Coffee has created and packaged uniquely African offerings to export to great successes internationally, a feat that countless artists, and other entrepreneurs, at home and across the globe would draw inspiration and wisdom from.”

“The ANC government continues to create opportunities within creative industries for local artists to thrive.

Maphumulo’s achievements clearly demonstrate that given such opportunities, there can be no limit to what an African child can achieve.

We equally congratulate all other South African artists who were also nominated for various BET award categories for the year 2016, including Kiernan Forbes (AKA), Refilwe Phoolo (Cassper Nyovest) and Mthembeni Ndevu (Emtee),” read the statement.
