Bra Fats no more!

Maile was sending his heartfelt condolences to family of the legendary actor Bra Fats Malefetsane Bookholane, who passed on after a long illness.

Bookholane, who played the role of Baba D in the SABC community health series ‘Soul City’, died at his home in Mofolo South, Soweto.

Born in New Brighton in Port Elizabeth in 1934, Bookholane came to Johannesburg in 1988.

He is also remembered for his role in the film ‘The Wild Geese’ in which he acted alongside his equally famous peers, John Kani and Winston Ntshona.

Other movies he appeared in include ‘Chikin Biznis’, ‘Mr Bones’ and ‘Heartlines’.

He is survived by 15 children.

I personally came to meet Bra Fats through the late journalist Kerwin Chiya, whom they knew each other very well.

Bra Fats will be buried at Roodepoort cemetery tomorrow.

MEC for Sport and Arts in Free State, Dan Khothule at the time of posting had not responded for comment.
