Chief’s star Duba carries club into Carling KO quarterfinals, as Soweto Derby looms

SOWETO clubs registered convincing wins ahead of the derby this weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs beat TS Galaxy 3-0 to advance to the Quarter-finals of the Carling KO, at FNB Stadium, so did Orlando Pirates who won with the same margin, same evening, from stone-throw away Orlando Stadium.

Wandile Duba, did the unthinkable as he scored a hat-trick to put his side AmaKhosi 3-0 against the capable Galaxy.

Duba is the first PSL player to score hat-trick for his outfit after years.

For Chiefs, this was a welcome relief after being eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup last week.

Bucs on the other hand, handed PSL newcomers Milford FC a baptism of fire with a comfortable 3-0, but coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was unimpressed though.

He blamed his players for lacking discipline and individualistic play on Tuesday night.

The Moroccan delivered a scathing, saying signing for a big brand like Pirates comes with responsibility and respect for your teammates.

“We’re going to assess what happened on Tuesday night, and some of the players will have to answer,” he said.

A win yes, but was unimpressed with showboating, not passing a ball to your teammate to score when the opportunity presented itself, considering we have to defend the league, play CAF and now we have quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout on our plate, these players must not forget the responsibility of signing for Pirates comes with.”

In Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns won their game against Marumo Gallant 1-0, at Loftus Stadium.

Also facing an egg on their face for being edged out of the CAF Champions League last week, Downs fought gallantly to register a must win- thanks to Man of the Match Siyanda Ndlovu, who scored a beauty of a goal after receiving a pass from teammate Iqraam Rayners.

All three top teams booked themselves in the Carling KO Quarters.

Tonight, Stellenbosch FC face Durban City at Chatsworth.

Kick- off 19:00

Soweto derby takes place at FNB Stadium on Saturday October 31.
