CoJ unveil its online radio

In an aim to close the gap of digital divide, the City has introduced its very own vibrant online radio station.

This powerful form of content aims to close down communication barriers by reaching out to more residents.

Lwando Mbelu, one of the radio presenters, said “residents will now not only communicate with the City on social media but will engage live and direct it will cover everything regarding the City of Joburg from service delivery, wanting to know your city council better and promoting small business enterprise”.

The radio station currently has two slots, which include the morning show Rise up eGoli between 8am to 10am and the afternoon drive Good afternoon Jozi which airs at 3pm till 5pm.

Another excited radio presenter of the show, Jurgen van Lill, added that, “radio is good and very relevant as we are moving to a digital age, which is the fourth industrial revolution radio, has a way of reaching to diverse people”.

MMC of Economic Development Lawrence Khoza was one of the first people interviewed he spoke about the importance of 120 days of accelerated service delivery and highlighted some of the service delivery achievements and how the city is creating opportunities that will empower the youth.

All the entities of the City such as Joburg Water, City Power, Johannesburg Roads Agency and many more were onsite to convey the integrated service delivery plan.

The Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo was present to give this thoughts and vision around the online radio station and the service delivery programme.

“I am delighted that we have taken this leap as Johannesburg by launching this online radio station as digital is the future. We are one of the first cities in Africa to have done this in order to communicate our messages and engage with our citizens, in terms of service delivery we are setting a new standard there will be reviews in these 120 days from each ward to identify service delivery challenges and find solutions.”

He further spoke about the importance of being visible to residents and that Ivory Park has to be part of the urban system. “We have to turn it into ivory.”

The Executive Mayor and members of the Mayoral Committee also went to communicate with the residents in the region about their service delivery issues, in ward 79 the leaders patched and marked the road as part of day 3 of 120 days of accelerated service delivery.

They also went to Tembisa Mall to engage with the business community in Region A.  The aim of the session was to give strategies and interventions to business entrepreneurs on how they can recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
