Former PP to lead delegation to Kilimanjaro in commemoration of Mandela Day

Now entering its 8th year, The Trek4Mandela is an annual expedition to summit Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, in commemoration of Mandela Day.

The event brings together inspired individuals from different corporate and public backgrounds to assist in raising funds and creating awareness for Caring4Girls, a sanitary towels distribution programme that aims to help keep adolescent girls in school during their monthly cycles.

For the first time, 2019 will see two groups of Trek4Mandela climbers get to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro – one who will summit on Mandela Day on 18 July and the other who will summit on Women’s Day on 9 August.

The fierce Prof. Madonsela will be joined by:

·         Gerrie Elsdon: Presenter and Speaker

·         Sello Hatang: CEO of the Mandela Foundation

·         Richard Mabaso: CEO of the Imbumba Foundation

·         Pearl Shongwe: TV and Sports Presenter.

The partnership is made possible by Huawei who will sponsor a Huawei P30 as well as the Huawei Watch GT to the climbers.

The launch took place at the Lehwelereng Secondary School, Hammanskraal on 11th.

“Huawei has partnered with the Imbumba Foundation because of their commitment toward enriching the lives of those most vulnerable. Education is a vital element of ensuring a positive future for South Africa, and young girls should not have to miss a day of school due to not having access to sanitary towels.

In the spirit of Mandela Day, Huawei wants to create a more meaningful long-term impact on the lives of the less fortunate, and joins the Imbumba Foundation in their aim of raising enough funds to ensure that 1 million girls have access to sanitary towels, ” says Likhun Zhao, General Manager of Huawei South Africa.
