Bucs: Jele renews contract, promote youngster to senior team

Happy Jele- Orlando Pirates captain, has extended contract.

Jele has committed himself to the club for another season, extending his stay to at least 12 years with the senior team.

The 31-year-old, who was honoured with the Chairman’s Award at the club’s prize giving last month, saw his previous deal come to an end in June.

Following discussions held earlier this week, The Buccaneers have now confirmed that their long-serving defender will remain at the Houghton-based outfit for the 2018/19 season.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that captain Happy Jele has signed on the dotted line to extend his stay on board the Buccaneers ship for another season,” read a club statement.

“The deal was concluded after a brief meeting between the player and club management on Tuesday.

“Jele will be celebrating his 12th season as an Orlando Pirates player when the 2018/19 season kicks off this weekend.”

‘Magents‘ has stood the test of time at the club, being the only remaining member of their historic back-to-back treble-winning squad.

Meanwhile, Bucs have promoted academy midfielder Augustine Mahlonoko to the senior team ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The 16-year-old makes an early rise to the big league, having impressed during the club’s ‘Project X’ campaign that saw an Under-21 team tour Brazil earlier this year.

Mahlonoko also picked up the club’s Shield Development Player of the Year award at their prize-giving last month, as he joined the first team in pre-season.
