Opel’s new ‘Visor’ frontal design is mistaken for EV

IF ONE thing Stellantis group is best known for, it is comfort.

This follows the test drive I conducted on its revised Opel Grandland recently.

It boast major makeover- both exterior and inside- major facelift.

So, my test took me to the Northern Cape experiencing the Opel’s new ‘Visor’ frontal design, first introduced on the Mokka, and its more elegant, to such an extend one of the truck drivers mistaken it for EV, lol..

The GS and ultimate variants have new adaptive IntelliLux Pixel lights, which feature 168 LED elements- that means the front lights dim automatically in the evening when facing on-coming traffic. My best feature I must confess.

As for the wheels, the Grandland base model is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the GS Line gets sportier 19-inch rims and the Ultimate receives 18-inch wheels.

The interior boast a dual-screen layout that combines a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen under one panel, comes with Ultimate leather upholstery and electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, and upgraded seats that were scientifically designed for posture support.

Albeit there were less potholes and rugged road en-route to NC- one thing for sure the comfort in Grandland is unsurpassed, it is grand.

Standard features include dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control with speed limiter, forward collision warning with auto emergency braking and pedestrian detection and lane keeping assist, yes, but you can switch it off.

It has been equipped with automatic parking assistant, reverse camera and blind spot warning, upgraded Navi 5.0 IntelliLink Infotainment System and powered tailgate.

Being a six-speed automatic transmission, power is generated from a 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine that’s good for 121kW and 240Nm.

All Opel Grandland models are sold with a five-year or 100 000km warranty and matching service plan.

Pricing:

Grandland 1.6T – R599 900

Grandland 1.6T GS Line – R679 900

Grandland 1.6T Ultimate – R720 900

Verdict

Performance 1-10 (7)

Fuel 1-10 (6)
