On Wednesday, the critically acclaimed Gospel ensemble launched
their much awaited Cinema Experience at the Nu Metro- Hyde Park.
This will be the first time ever, in both the South African music and cinema scenes, Joyous will grace the big screen with their experience.
The Joyous 22 album that highlights 14 strong tracks, has been re-edited and mastered for the cinema release, accompanied by high-quality movie that vividly captures their majestic voices and signatures moves that have become synonymous with the ensemble – leaving the audience feeling as if they are live in concert.
Shot at the sold out Sandton Convention Center show last November, the 32 member team backed by 12 piece band was shot using 46 cameras for an uncompromising quality, using what is called 2K-that is far better than HD- boasted one of the founders, conductor par excellence and non-preacher Lindelani Mkhize.
Having caught his breath after an emotional but melodic experience- the pint-sized Mkhize said its all about catching up with reality and innovation.
“We’re excited with this mind blowing project that will make our partners- not fans- the experience never seen. The resources invested in seeing this project take off came with all sorts of what- iffs but we persevered and today; we’re happy to present this baby to the world. Praise the Lord,” he said with that signature smile and famous cap on.
We’ve brought a lot of young members who are energetic, versatile and hip to add into the creativity we needed in the group, said Mkhize -former Sony Music executive.
Asked if their international trip last year contributed to the birth of the project Mkhize emphatically said no. Instead of us learning from our US counterpart, we imparted ideas and skills about stage choreography and other musical ideas to them, how amazing? He retorted.
“The beauty of this movie is that it will be shown in Texas-US during Rev TD Jakes sermon. That goes to show the relationship we’ve created with our brothers and sisters pre and post the tour,” he continued.
MTN senior representative Louisa Kodisang jokingly opined these are kinds of returns you derive when you invest.
The movie goes live nationally at some of Nu Metro cinemas from April 27 (Freedom Day) 2018.
Joyous Celebration’s next move is Cape Town in May and Sun City later in the year.
